Brave Land

Love Has Come For Me

It’s the heavy lifting of the soul

It’s when to rock and when to roll

It’s all the senses here combined to tell me

To pay attention to the news

To talk show headlines with the clues

Of how to be and how to stay courageous

Tell me oh

The night has come

Love has come for me

Has come for me

Love has come for me

Has come for me

To all the parts that kept me safe

To all that led me to the place

Where I could let it go and let it lie

I thank you by my Maker’s hand

Knowing what I did not know,

That I might stand here, willing to receive it

when the night has come

Love has come for me

Has come for me

Love has come for me

Has come for me

And I know this face

And I’ve walked these floors

And I know that I should name it

beholding so spectacular a thing

And I see that I can hold it all

It comes to fill the space that I’m within

What if I could hold/heal you there

Lend comfort to your tried and loving heart

that will come to know the difference

Points of light that amplify

That resonate, a sympathetic thought

The kind of thing that tears the walls down

Love has come for me

Has come for me

Love has come for me

Has come for me

Brave Land

Born one day breathing

gifted with these feet that walk the earth

Tread stepping gently

the earth as our body and our lover

And I’ve never seen a green this green before

Brave land up-reaching

sit with me and lift me to the sky

that I might hear you

Covered in crystal

holy mantle where the sun is set

And I’ve never seen a light this light before

Sing to me starlight

shine that I might see my my through

Call to me, sliver of the moon

waxing, waning, and revealing

Come now, indweller of my heart

Chase the sorrow from the darkest part

Offer the breaking of my bones

the pouring of my heart

That I could be a channel of thy peace

make me warm and make me willing

Come now, indweller of my heart

Chase the sorrow from the darkest part

Come now, indweller of my heart

Chase the sorrow from the darkest part

Over the Mountain

If I am the writer’s word

I’ll write down a message

So many words I can choose

All of the letters

Cooperate to speak

The meaning that I seek

To send through

If I am the ink that illustrates

Spun from the stone

Oh what a mark I will make

Point to the pages

I’ll sketch my lines upon

The figures to be drawn

You’ll see them through

If I am the earth offered clay

Sculpted and thrown

How Lucky my shape in your hands

Oh and you listen

To what I have to say

To me, this silt and clay,

You see me through

Like the stars

And their place in the sky

Moving but known

So will I be known to you

I am a shoulder to rest your head upon

When things go right when they go wrong

through

Believer

There’s a mountain high

With the sea below

And the gathered light

casts the mountain’s shadow

I don’t know how you see it, but you do

There’s a face I’ve seen

As I shift my gaze

Like some life I’ve lived

Or some place I’ve been

A flash of the familiar

A look of the outlying

Keeper of the night

Oh breaker of the day

Maker of the light

Believer

There’s a path I’ve walked

Through the forest green

There’s a way I know

To walk in between

In between the branches

in between the lines

There’s a gift I left

buried in the ground

like a treasure hid

like a treasure found

Left to open later

I knew later would be better

Keeper of the night

Oh breaker of the day

Maker of the light

Believer

On this very night

With these very steps

There’s a boundary crossed

There’s a Boundary met

the crossing of a mountain pass

Crossing of a line

Keeper of the night

Oh breaker of the day

Maker of the light

Believer

It Matters

Standing on the sidewalk

but it’s not for standing on

They say you’re standing wrong

They say to leave this place

Here, the homeland of your ancestors

This place you have a right to

This place you came tonight

To be a person in a crowd

Hands off

Stand down

Respect the land you stand on

Step back

Look up

See the history your town was built on

There is a past that led us here

It matters

You in uniform

Who hold their power over

Targeting the people

You surely should protect

Landing blows

That sting with history

If the government did this to me

Who would I trust

Hands off

Stand down

Respect the land you stand on

Step back

Look up

See the history your town was built on

There is a past that led us here

It matters

There is a past that led us here

It matters

Try

Some days I feel it

A tap on the shoulder

Awakened I open my eyes

All that I know

Of my earthly arrangement

Hovers just out of my sight

All things reflecting a light to behold

Stilling my body

Is this the place

Where we lay down our burdens

Where all of our slates are made clear

Where all of our hearts

are sent lilting, courageous

Where courage is born out of fear

Step now my darling

One foot then the next

The earth will receive you

Lift, lifting

The weight of the mountain

Rising up

Feet upon the ground

Over the highest point

Down where the water collects

Running clear

Gather the lessons

Swallow the worry

Let the love in with the fear

I’ve known for some time that this too would pass

Oh, would you keep me

Want, wanting

Another direction

Calling out

When we are alone

Try, this is me trying

To move a mountain

Hall of hearts

Hollow of the bone

For a long while now I’ve understood

That of this meeting we’d take what we could

Mountain Henge

In the cold mountain henge

Earth and sky surround

Steady for the rising of the sun

At the boundary of the ring

Tethered to the earth

Step through, making closer all the worlds

And in the circle of the stone

Earth given I will stand alone

To raise the ringing of the land

In the cold mountain henge

Ooo

On the surface of the stone

Prayers run down like water

Driven like a river, to the sea

The river stirs the sacred sea

Points of light awaking

Rising ever upward to the sky

To amplify my thanks to you

The giving of this life you do

To raise the ringing

To raise the ringing

To raise the ringing of the land

In the cold mountain henge

A Lover’s Word

A lover’s word reflects their act

I don’t know where to put you after that

Somewhere where the words don’t say what they seem

Some place where the damage justifies the means

I welcome one so meek

But only if you know it

So too for the weak

But only if you show it

An open heart that that feels the ache

Don’t you think you should tend the things you break

And at the site of disrespect

Don’t you think you should heed the words you’d said

Am I meant to applaud your restraint

When you could have done much worse

with your courage so easily spent

so easily squandered

Out pours the content of the truth

Revealing hidden parts of you

With the sting still on your skin

Left to make the bed you’re in

I’m careful where I place my trust

and I slept there in those sheets

With you and your heart in the wrong place

misrepresented

I welcome one so meek

But only if you know it

So too for the weak

But only if you show it

Eclipse

From the highest point

Of the darkest night

There comes a light

Waxing waning

Reach for the comfort of the moon

See us through the effort of the dark

We have made the trip

We have found the bend

Our gathered hearts

Waiting, reaching

It is the season of the snow

borrowed light bending at the edges

Through the shadow pass

The waning of the light

Through the looking glass

night falling on the night

Call out to the darkest point

The fracture of the light

Bear witness to the change it brings

Each fragment and each rite

As our breath returns

With our mercy granted

She is full of phase

Shining, Lighting, Loving

Reach for the comfort of the moon

See us through the effort of the dark
