LATEST ALBUM NIGHT SKY
Acoustic Chamber Folk with an Otherworldly Edge
Night Sky (March 2018) is a full-length, lyrically driven album of original songs. It is the second full-length release from prairie songstress Raine Hamilton. A classical violinist and fiddle player by training, Raine writes for violin and voice as well as for guitar and voice. Strings feature strongly in these song arrangements, working primarily with violin, guitar, cello, and upright bass, in highly arranged chamber folk. The album also features a bilingual tune, La plaine, and an instrumental track, Everyday.
Night Sky tips between the earthly and the otherworldly; it is anchored in relatable lived experience, while reaching into the space just beyond, thinning the veil between here and there, affording safe passage to the rough and beautiful places.
Night Sky was recorded with producer/engineer Lloyd Peterson at Paintbox Studios in Winnipeg Manitoba Canada, and with string trio mates Natanielle Felicitas on cello, and Quintin Bart on bass and hurdy gurdy. This recording won the 2018 Canadian Folk Music Award for Emerging Artist of the Year.
